An AI copilot for interviews: how it works and who needs it
An AI copilot for interviews is an app that listens to the other person in real time, turns their speech into text and shows you hints on screen. Here is how such a tool works and where it is really useful.
Three steps of the technology
1. Capturing the sound. With WASAPI loopback the app hears everything the computer plays: Zoom, Google Meet, Telegram, YouTube. You need no virtual audio drivers and no microphone setup.
2. Speech recognition. The audio stream goes to a streaming speech-to-text engine (Realtime Interview Copilot uses Deepgram Nova). Latency is a few hundred milliseconds, so subtitles appear almost in sync with the speech.
3. Generating the answer. As soon as the other person finishes a thought, the question goes to a language model. The answer appears in an overlay above all windows and can be read aloud in a neural voice.
Where it is really useful
- Practice. Mock interviews with an AI playing the interviewer. Train as much as you need, without embarrassment.
- Accessibility. Live subtitles for people who are hard of hearing or find it hard to follow speech by ear.
- Calls in a second language. Hints on phrasing in English.
- Meetings and lectures. Real-time transcripts of long discussions.
About honesty
Using hints during a real hiring process breaks the rules of most companies, and that is worth remembering. The tool helps most where it is allowed: practice, reviewing answers, accessibility, working through calls. An AI copilot is a trainer that makes your preparation many times faster.
